I’m writing the second novella featuring the adventures of not quite completely retired MI6 analyst Irwin Baker at the moment, (the first instalment was Tiger, gratuitous plug fans!) and some of the characters in it have been with me for years, evolving through multiple other projects. In particular Detective Kay Wood and crime scene tech Gloria date back to a comic from 1997 called The Millennium Watch. For the last few years, I’d say that the majority of post on Spinneyhead have been photos. I’ve not been very talkative, and taking pictures on my phone, then sending them to Flickr to be cross-posted to the blog has been easy. However, the last three pictures I sent to Flickr (four if you count the one I sent twice as a test) didn’t make it to the blog. It looks like cross-posting is broken. Until I can find out where the process is falling down, Spinneyhead may be photoless. I might actually have to start talking to you again.

In the digital age, where speed and efficiency dominate, film has become more and more rare. This is especially true among surfer photographers who often fill up numerous memory cards during a surf trip and don't have the space or time to hassle with hundreds of rolls of film. In fact, I have yet to see very many surf photographers use film in the past 10 years, besides lifestyle and portrait images. Mainly because of the rapid fire capabilities that DSLR's have for action sport photo sequences which ensure that you get the best shot possible. However, the biggest drawback is that digital…

  • GoPro Hero 4 Silver Edition Review

    22 Oct 2014 | 5:17 am
You can take high quality photos and videos with this model of GoPro. GoPro Hero 4 Silver Edition is good for photographers/videographers (and/or who wants to be one) who likes to see what they get. As you know, none of the GoPro action cams come with an LCD screen. This means that you have to pay another $79.99 for an LCD BacPac. According to me, built-in LCD touch screen is the #1 feature of GoPro Hero 4 Silver Edition. As a GoPro fan, I was always complaining about an LCD screen that comes with our GoPro. Some others say that this is an action cam and it doesn’t have to have one.

GoPro has a new product line in 2014. I have already wrote a review about the GoPro Hero 4 Black. You can read my GoPro Hero 4 Black Edition review here. Today, I want to talk about another brand-new product by GoPro. Its name is GoPro Hero. Not 3+, not 4 or something. GoPro Hero is a very good action camera who doesn’t want/need premium quality (like 4K as it is in GoPro Hero 4), but a cheap one. With a price of only $129.99, you can now own a GoPro. I really liked the idea. GoPro Hero only weighs 111 grams. It still has a fair enough video and photo quality. If you say “I…

In August 2013, GoPro announced (I also announced it here in DiveWithSeaman.com) the name of the next GoPro product: GoPro Hero 4. There were arguments about the technical specs, features and the appearance of GoPro Hero 4. At last, October 2014 came and we finally met the brand-new GoPro. This year, there are three new GoPro family member: GoPro Hero 4 Black GoPro Hero 4 Silver GoPro Hero It took…

    23 Oct 2014 | 2:16 am
Beaches, nature, architecture and history all come together in one of Greece’s oldest cities. Nafpaktos is the second largest town of Aetolia-Acarnania, and is situated on a bay on the north coast of the Gulf of Corinth. The city is picturesque, and it has kept its style, beauty and feel for centuries. The name Nafpaktos roughly translates to ‘boat yard’. Historically the name goes as far back as the Doric period, as the Dorian first used the island to build rafts. Legend has it that Heraclidea built a fleet of ships in the harbor which were then used to invade the Peloponnese.

This has to be one of the funnest longboard runs we’ve seen; perfect gradient, into looping turns, smooth asphalt, all topped off with a gorgeous alpine backdrop. Plus there are no cars, quite a few road bikes though – imagine seeing this in next years Tour de France! In the video Byron Essert and Alex Tongue are in the shot, filmed by Dexter Sjögren. As they overtake the cyclists, look out a surprised reaction at around the 0.40 mark. Sick! The post Longboarders Racing Cyclists in the Alps appeared first on ADAPT network.

This video is awesome for two reasons. One being that it shows two great Kirra beach (Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia) locals rescuing some tourist swimmers. The second being the news anchors’ reactions throughout the resulting interview, they’re in stitches (in a good way). The french tourist pair had got into trouble near some rocks after being sucked out by the rip current. The Kirra Beach life guards had recently shut the beach down due these powerful rip currents. So Nick Chalmers sent his mate, Angus McNicol, out with his surfboard to rescue one swimmer. They then noticed…

Photo from Flickr/Tambako The Jaguar. There are some things that you would think wouldn’t have to spelled out for people. Well that list just seems to be getting shorter and shorter. The latest item to be crossed off the above mentioned list is telling people not to “take selfies with bears.” That’s exactly what officials with the U.S. Forest Service, at Taylor Creek Visitor Center in South Lake Tahoe, are doing. The creek is the site of a massive annual kokanee salmon run upstream, which also attracts hungry bears looking to nab a meal. Lately the spectacle has also…

Don Dunbar was out fishing in the waters of Nanoose Bay in British Columbia, Canada. He encountered a young bald eagle, struggling to ‘swim’ back to land. While it certainly wasn’t the catch Dunbar had in mind, after some careful thought and encouraging the eagle towards the boat, he was able to lift the eagle out of the cold water into a fishing net. The Eagle was clearly exhausted and after a breather went about hopping about the boat, spreading it’s wings to dry off. Check out the raw footage of the rescue below, you can see that the distressed eagle took Dunbar by…

The first half features clips of big wave surfing which look so cool in slow mo. The rest of the film features clips of aerials, drops and tube rides which look equally as gorgeous. The way the water bubbles over the lens as the wave passes by the cameraman; I…
