Snowboarders who drop down steep cliffs and then carve through pristine powder snow at breakneck speeds. Addiction to extreme adventure is very strong.

    16 May 2012 | 4:01 am
For the 2012 West Coast Invitational Mammoth shifted gears in a BIG way. For 10 years straight the WCI showcase event was a Snowboard Rail Jam at the Village. The powers-that-be decided it was time for a change… And, despite a markedly low snow year, Mammoth forged ahead with plans to move the excitement of WCI from the Village to Canyon Lodge. A Village Rail Jam would forego something totally new for WCI – a skier/snowboarder paired team Big Air Comp at Canyon Lodge. No snow at Canyon Lodge? No problem… Actually, more like BIG problem. A team of snowcats worked day and night to push a…

Issue 164 Caution When Wet! Riding anywhere outdoors during the last month was pretty much deemed a write-off. The UK is supposedly in a drought (even though it’s been raining constantly for over a month now) but despite the non-stop rain, we dug deep and battled on. This issue includes features from the UK (in the rain), Sunny California (not in the rain), a boat trip on the Atlantic Ocean and a selection of some Idiots Abroad… Check out more from issue 164 below… In this issue: • Cam Hardy gives us a ‘Bunch Of Fives’. • Joss Fenn tells us what he ‘Love and Hates’.

    16 May 2012 | 4:54 am
Well the last couple of days on RTG were a mix of awesome riding and no riding what so ever. On Friday we hit up a small suburb of Amsterdam. Jamie knew of a bowl which we could go ride and get warmed up on, or at least knew the rough area. Basically we ended up getting a bit lost, but saw a load of street on the way. We found the bowl, which was a cool multicolored thing, with a volcano in the middle. Max (having rested are smashing his knee and face) and Miller got straight on it and were ripping around like locals after 15 minutes. If miller didn’t hit 10 ft at the bowl we went to in…

32-year old Dave Cornthwaite is downright cool. Former graphic designer turned adventurer and motivational speaker, Dave became disenchanted with work and, having recently taken up longboarding, decided to set out on an adventure. One year later, Dave skateboarded his way from Perth to Brisbane–yes, across the entire continent of Australia–received his first world record and book deal and never looked back. Since then, Dave has paddled 2 of the world’s longest rivers from source to sea, crossed England (and Lake Geneva) by Stand Up Paddleboard, broken a world speed record on…

    12 Mar 2012 | 3:33 am
Awesome post here on Kite Forum looking at Kitesurfing safety from a fighter pilots point of view: There are old fighter pilots and crazy fighter pilots but never old crazy fighter pilots. This seems to directly translate to kitesurfing. I am an instructor pilot in the F-15E fighter jet and a graduate of the Air Force Flight Safety School (similar to the NTSB aircraft crash investigation school). I wanted to discuss some of the corollaries between kiting and flying to 1) Give you an idea of how we execute an inherently dangerous job of flying fighter jets and 2) How you can apply this to…

    Sam
    14 Feb 2012 | 3:20 am
So we’ve been experimenting with using short lines here at Tantrum Kitesurf and I wanted to take a minute to tell you the results. After coming back from her Instructor Training Course last year, Maria, one of our instructors started raving about using short lines, explaining how it made everything so much easier and safer. Always on the look out for ways to make things easier for clients (and indirectly ourselves!) I thought we’d better investigate. We started by simply cutting some of the lines we had. We put a cut at 15m which meant we had one section of line that was 10m long…
