I can’t honestly say that I’ve ever read Charlie Hebdo. I always bought a few bandes dessinee magazines, but I had a preference for lushly rendered ligne claire tales full of hard SF and occasional naked people. Since the magazine’s offices were attacked, there has been an amount of self important commentary suggesting the cartoonists brought the violence upon themselves. It’s not just been from the sort of right wingers who would like to have the power to threaten and censor for themselves, either. People who would normally, and rightly, rail against victim blaming,…

I’m a bit of an odd Green, because this was my birthday day out (a day early). Usually you’d have to drive to the location of a car show, which is tricky when you don’t have a car, so to be able to walk to this one was pleasant. There were some really nice cars and bikes present, and a few trucks decorated with film inspired murals that bordered on kitsch. They weren’t too tightly packed, which gave me plenty of room to get some nice shots, but it felt a bit sparse. A little bit of a let down, for what I paid, but I got some neat pictures. A couple of cars looked…

The beginning of life may have been inevitable, it seems, a natural and logical result of thermodynamics. From the standpoint of physics, there is one essential difference between living things and inanimate clumps of carbon atoms: The former tend to be much better at capturing energy from their environment and dissipating that energy as heat. Jeremy England, a 31-year-old assistant professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, has derived a mathematical formula that he believes explains this capacity. The formula, based on established physics, indicates that when a group of atoms…

When was the last time you woke up in the morning before your alarm clock, bursting with energy, bounced straight out of bed and just felt great to be alive? My bet is, if you like 99.9% of the rest of the Western population, it was a long time ago. As a society we are chronically fatigued. Most of us are so chronically fatigued we don’t even recognise the symptoms of this fatigue, we simply accept them as part of the human experience, that this is how we should feel. In fact it is calculated that it would take the average Westerner three weeks of quality sleep to repay their sleep debt…

Keep in mind this applies to people who have a sheet of grip tape bigger than their deck (a skateboard size sheet for example). This does not include grip tape that comes pre cut for a certain deck. To start off you are going to need the following items  Griptape Sheet (preferably bigger than your deck) Razor Blade  Sanding Sheet File/Scissors …

  • A long walk in Firenze Italy and a visit to Pisa

    chris
    19 Jan 2015 | 3:47 pm
Leaving Verona we went towards Firenze Italy (Florence). We also planned to go to Pisa and we did. But the main goal was the amazing city of Firenze. The city is also considered as the birthplace of the Renaissance, and has been called “the Athens of the Middle Ages”. The old city is a total museum whereas many modern facilities blend with the old. We had to plan our visit there as we had to also visit Pisa (1 hour away). This visit to Firenze was my 2nd one (I really like the old city) but the first for Maria and I had promised her that she would love it. She did! Firenze Santa…

    17 Jan 2015 | 1:41 pm
Many may think things like: Are you totally crazy to visit Moscow in this freezing cold? At Winter? It will be extremely dangerous, hunderds of thousands of people at the streets and they don’t speak English (true, most don’t). I have heard all these before listening for the trip but couldn’t ignore the glimpse of “envy” for going such a trip. I mean, you have to admit it… Moscow is as another kind of exotic destination in its own peculiar way… Moscow is a city with lots of surprises as well as diversities. You can see both culture, extreme wealth…

    Ben
    26 Jan 2015 | 6:12 am
Snowdonia is one of the best places in the UK to get outdoors, mountaineer, hike and climb. Surfing is about to be added to this list, which sounds crazy but Snowdonia is about to become one of the most consistent surf spots in the world. 2m barrelling waves peeling down a valley in Snowdonia by July 2015 – how does that sound? Surf Snowdonia will feature a world first for artificial surf technology and promises a scaled-up version of The Wavegarden, also coming to Bristol soon. While you will have to pay to surf here, it won’t be very expensive and what you get in return is…
  • CHRISCROSS 2 – Cyclocross even more extreme!

    26 Jan 2015 | 5:28 am
Last year, mountain bike trials ninja Chris Akrigg, took the Mongoose Selous for a spin in the woods, and in doing so he pushed the hybrid sport of cyclocross to the next level. Well he’s back and dare I say it, but he might have pushed the boundary even further. From shredding down paths that a hardtail would slide about on, river runs and crazy bunny hops, this sequel is brimming with action. Here’s what the Chris had to say about the vid: “Well here we go again, the second installment of riding the bike with the curly whirly bars and skinny tyres. We are currently at…

The access road to Martin’s Beach. Photo: Flickr/Coast Road. California state is threatening to step in to ensure that surfers and other beach goers have access to Martins Beach. The State Lands Commission may use powers never employed in its 77-year history, seizing private land for public use to end a battle between surfers and billionaire, Vinod Khosla – one of the founders of Sun Microsystems, who has been locking a gate at his beach property along California’s Pacific Coast. The battle, which ADAPT reported on here, started when Khosla locked the only gate allowing…

The 2015 Monte Carlo rally was a pretty special weekend thanks to a fantastic drive from Sebastien Ogier and nine-time world champion Sebastien Loeb returning to the fray. This was Loeb’s first rally in 400 plus days. He lead early but after breaking his suspension on day two of the rally, Ogier was able to pull away, leaving the Frenchman in 8th position by the end of the rally. In a very brief comment with WRC.com, Loeb talked about his rally plans for 2015. “It was great.
